Garages

Apart from the more affluent and picturesque villages there will be no community life left. Gone are the post offices, pubs, village shops, village halls and schools – they will have all been turned into tourist accommodation. Telephone boxes will house defibrillators, and ragged books that no one wants, pretending to be libraries. For a while now petrol stations and garages are being demolished to provide land for “luxury” or “executive” housing.

Soon, villages will be nothing more than dormitories for the towns and larger villages, which have in themselves become small towns and no longer qualify for description as village. People will charge their electric cars and drive into town as there will no work here. Car manufacturers and their dealerships will ring the final death knell of the small garage by making sure that only they have the necessary equipment and technical knowhow to service ‘their’ vehicles.
