Present Illusion

Way back in the 1970s, I took some experimental selfies (I couldn’t fine a willing model) in the shower*. The long exposures produced the desired blurred effect that I was after. At the time I thought there must be more to this than meets the eye, it’s not just an effect…

Human beings are dynamic, ever-changing organisms. Long exposures reveal an existential reality beyond the still image and what we see with the naked eye, or in a still photograph.

* The original silver halide prints were toned using a ferric ammonium citrate solution, to create the blue effect. I have simulated this in the digital version in Photoshop.
